Take Action

What you can do to help

The best way to help both the domestic and wild ducks is to take action. Domestic ducks are in a gray area since they aren't classified as a companion animals by shelters and not considered wild by wildlife rescue organizations. A lot of vets aren't able to take care of ducks because they lack the experience and experise, a lot of animal shelter refuse will to take in waterfowl because they don't have the equipment.

Try asking your local pet shop to not sell "Easter" ducklings to stop people from impulsively buying them for a holiday and out of respect for the environment. If you ever see an abandoned domestic duck(s) in the wild then alert your local media about this problem and ask them to make a story about it or you could ask you local park department to put up signs, educating the public to not abandon their birds and to bring awareness to the issue. You don't have to do all of these things, doing something is better then nothing, help the ducks.
